rules, rules

The rules
The rules by Kyle Kesselring

Tame the Web noticed a ridiculously extensive list of rules for behavior in a public library in Georgia, which comes along with a snarky letter from the director about how ill-behaved their patrons apparently are (the reason they’ve created this laundry list of don’ts.

The discussion in the post and the comments reminds me of the speaker I saw earlier this month (Warren Graham), who talked about dealing with behavior in libraries and who advocates for fewer, broader rules that allow library staff to use their discretion and common sense.

It strikes me that attempting to make a list of everything that might possibly happen just so you can say you wrote it down is setting yourself up for failure.
