potato pests!

Oh no! There are some icky little bugs on my potato blossoms!

pests on the potatoes!

What are these things, and how do I get rid of them? They don’t appear to have done a ton of damage – yet! – but I don’t want to give them the chance. All advice and suggestions will be appreciated!

These are aphids. Go to your garden store and ask for Safer’s soap (I think that’s how its spelled) Its non toxic. You can also mail order lady bugs. These things multiply fast, they are born pregnant! Sometimes hosing them down with water will knock them off too. I would also recommend The National Gardening Association web site http://www.garden.org.
    Good luck!

  • Ick, aphids. Fortunately, there are a lot of products that can be used to discourage them. You’ll probably need to reapply any kind of spray/powder product after rain. I have aphid problems on one of my rose bushes (they tore the poor thing up) and I have to spray it pretty regularly.

  • Thanks, Bonnie and Nanette! I did hose them off the other day and it seemed to work for the time being. I ordered a box of ladybugs, too!
