Halloween costume

I was struggling with what to be for Halloween this year, and it was suggested to me that I dress as Coraline. How perfect is that?! So I started putting together a costume. For reference, here’s what she looks like:

So my list includes:

yellow slicker
wellies
red skirt
red and grey striped tights
dragonfly hair pin
red messenger bag
blue hairspray

I’ve had quite a lot of good luck so far:

I ordered the messenger bag (yay, Etsy!) and yellow slicker (yay, cheap!) online, and I already had the wellies (not the right color, but I’m not going to buy an extra pair of wellies just for this when I just got a new pair – unless someone has seen some yellow wellies for an unbeatable price?). The dragonfly isn’t actually a hair clip, but I can make it into one.

Now I need to find some tights and pick up some blue hairspray. I have a reddish brown corduroy skirt in my closet that will work unless I find something better. It’s all coming together!

arrr, matey!

Neil Gaiman rocks! Dressing as Coraline is a terrific idea. You’ve got the perfect hair style. Don’t you just love Halloween?

  • Thanks, Amy! I’m excited about it. I’ve got almost all the pieces for it already.

Ha! I am Coraline too. I have been on the mad search for items.
Rain Jacket I purchased from a lumber store. $13.68 for a hooded jacket and pants – can be used for later
Rain Boots – Marshalls, I found a white pair with a green and pink stripe, will work I guess. $29.99
Dragonfly barrette – $0.99 plus $4.50 shipping on Ebay made with Swakorski crystals
Messenger bag – found on some web site Worldwide products inc. Very cheap $6.99 but shipping was $18.
My hair is already cut like hers – had it done last week. $30
Blue hair spray – but I think I am goin to do it black because the picture I have of her in this outfit is black… $2.99
I am super excited, only thing is I am goin to an adult party and I know everyone is going to ask what/who I am, will put a copy of the movie in my messenger bag with candy and some 3D glasses!!!!!!

Have a great Halloween, good luck with your costume!

I know it is very close to that very important day, but thought you might be interested in an idea that could really add to your Coraline costume. It was on, no sew Coraline costume, associatedcontent.com. It was the little detail of the eyes and some make-up that I thought you might find helpful. Have fun!

  • Thanks, Chalee and Mom E! My costume came out really well. Check out my Flickr for pics!
