San Francisco, USA (part one)

We just returned last night from a week vacation in sunny San Francisco. While it wasn’t sunny ALL the time, it was sunny at least a little bit every day, which is reportedly unusual for this time of year. We had an awesome time traveling with my folks (big mega thank yous to them for taking us on this vacation!).

We arrived in the evening, so the next morning on our first full day we hopped on a streetcar and headed down to Fisherman’s Wharf for touristy things.

I am apparently super tired and/or it was really bright out that morning:

We spent some time at the Musee Mechanique, which was recommended to me by several friends who live in SF.

They had a ton of really neat mechanical machines, including some depicting famous times and happenings. Like, you know, an English Execution:

And a drunk in a graveyard:

The cutest was Pixieland:

We ate at the Boudin Bakery, which was delicious, and then continued our touristy day by visiting the Wax Museum. Phyllis Diller had just died, and they were honoring her:

I guess they must keep wreaths on hand.

Later we walked over to the Presidio and saw the Palace of Fine Arts:

And tracked down the Lucasfilm campus and admired the Yoda Fountain:

Some friends work at Lucasfilm and had offered to give us a tour, but unfortunately our visit coincided with them being out of town (for Celebration) so we just got a quick peek at the lobby:

It was still pretty neat to see the memorabilia in the lobby, even if it was just for a few moments. More to come tomorrow!
